A Shopping Cart device with the intent to help employee and shoppers have an easier time shopping and working.

project iNtent

Designed to help customers and employees easily locate and identify shopping carts throughout a store. The clean look of geometric shapes combined with the sleek feel of display case lighting creates a product that's both functional and stylish. This design makes it easy for the system to blend right into any modern store layout.

As part of exploring this solution learning how the sensors embedded in the cart interacts with its surroundings, Such as detecting movement, lighting, or proximity to designated cart zones. These environmental cues, have the LED light respond by turning on/off or changing color to signal whether a cart is in use, lost, or where it should be. This visual cue is designed to be easily noticeable by both customers and employees, guiding them to carts more efficiently and prompting action.

Prototype

I decided to go with a thinner, more tapered version of my physical prototype, making it less obtrusive while still highly visible.

Problem

Keeping the simple geometric shapes will allow easy integration into todays standard manjufactored shopping carts. The display case like lighting will allow for a outlined shadow that helps customers see where their cart is. While also helping employers easily identify where a missing car may be outside. This lights may eventually take on different colors or flashing patterns to convey different meanings.

Easy Attachment

Customers often struggle with not seeing better prices or sales while searching for a product, feeling unsure about how to navigate the store or where to begin, and dealing with misplaced carts, while employees face challenges such as collecting abandoned carts, managing cluttered aisles, and ensuring carts are available and functional for incoming shoppers.

Solution

We believe that adding an LED light to shopping carts could help customers and employees more easily locate and return them, potentially reducing store clutter, improving cart availability, and enhancing the overall shopping experience. This solution might also streamline cart collection for staff and reduce frustration for shoppers who struggle to find carts or navigate crowded areas.
